Plant Sale Growers Meeting

Good Evening, fellow Master Gardeners, Shereen here new Master Gardener sale cord.( I am new to this role)The plant sell date is set for May 16th. So it is time to think about growing. I have sent this email to all the Master Gardeners in our membership directory. (Over 80)We have high hopes that we can get some interest in some new growers. So I have set a date of Jan 28th from 10 AM to noon at the Newport Extension office. At this meeting we will all  be able to meet the leads/growers for our annual plant sale in May.I know that all prospective growers will not be able to make this meeting. By having this meeting we may be able to find out what growers' interest may be out there in different areas.I will also  be bringing pots, bamboo stakes, and blinds (plant markers). We will discuss needed supplies ( price tags etc.)potting soil and assistance for new growers. There are so many plants that we can grow to share with our community. The Master Gardner's sale awesome leads in our garden sections have offered to give a small seed starting demonstration to our members at the end of the meeting. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.I am looking forward to meeting and learning with each of you.If you do not wish to be part of this HUGE email list of ALL MG's in LC and do not wish to grow, Please let me know and I will remove you from the list.If you are unable to make the meeting but would like to be a grower. Let me know your interest and I will help you contact that section lead.Looking forward for this to be a growing 2026,

Apprentice Training (Plant Clinic Gurus Invited)

  • March 11 - Understanding Pesticide Risks (Geared to MGs):
    • Jennifer Gervais, National Pesticide Information Center & Certified Benton County Master Gardener™
    • Another wonderful presentation for anyone who does Plant Clinic, either in ECCO or at Tabling Events, or wants some objective fact-based nuggets for presentations.
    • I heard her speak at last year’s Joy of Gardening Conference and immediately wanted to enlist her.

Invitation from Stormi Dykes:

Hello 2026 Plant Clinic Gurus,

I’m really hoping that all the gurus will be able to come to the 2026 Apprentice Training Live Discussion on March 11 with Jennifer Gervais. (This is from 5:30-7:30PM at OCCC South Beach, although she is planning on taking just 60 minutes with Q&A at the front half). The topic is “Understanding Pesticide Risks (Geared to MGs)”; I heard her speak at Joy of Gardening this past July and I immediately asked her to come and speak. She works for the National Pesticide Information Center based at OSU and she is also a long-term MG™. She’s so interesting, informative and objective. I feel like our Volunteers & Apprentices will really benefit from her holistic point of view.

Apprentice Training (Program Fair with Committee Leads)

Invitation from Stormi Dykes:

Hello 2026 LCMGA Committee Leads!

I would like to invite you all to attend the Wednesday, April 15, 2026, Apprentice Training Live Discussion to give a brief overview of your Committee. The meeting starts at 5:30PM and will be held at OCCC’s South Beach Campus (Room 140). We’re trying something new this year based on lots of feedback/observations from last year’s Apprentice class. I’m basically “co-opting” something that has been successful in several other counties and it’s this:

It’s called a “Program Fair” (something like a Speed Dating event, although the Apprentices are in one spot and the LCMGA Members are rotating😊).

  • All Committee Leads will be given 3-5 minutes (timed) to present your program, plans for the year and how Apprentices can get involved.
  • Each Apprentice will be given a printed checklist of the Committees and will need to check 1-3 programs they’re interested in getting involved with.
  • They’ll turn in their sheets at the end of the night, I’ll let you know who expressed interest and then ask you to reach out to those Apprentices.
  • We’re going to be very strict about the time limits this year.
  • I’ll give you a PowerPoint template to fill in (and I can help you do this). Just one slide per Committee! (See attached example from Clatsop County to get an idea what this will look like.)

If you will be unable to attend, please let me know as soon as you can so that we can figure out a “Plan B” for your part of the presentation. (I know it’s months away and Tax Day to boot! Wanted to provide lots of notice!)

Here’s the current list of the 2026 Committee Leads. Please note that you’ll have 3-5 minutes per Committee, not per person. Q&A will be held until the end.
