Grow With Us
The Grow with Us Seed Library is a free community resource offering open-pollinated and heirloom seeds you can take home and grow in your own garden. Available at the Newport Public Library, these seeds are perfect for gardeners of all experience levels—from curious beginners to seasoned green thumbs.
This collaborative project between the Newport Public Library and the Lincoln County Master Gardener™ Association is more than just seeds. Master Gardeners are here to support you with research-based guidance on how to plant, grow, harvest, and even save seeds for future seasons.
Stop by the library to browse the seed collection—and don’t hesitate to ask a Master Gardener for tips and advice. We’re here to help your garden grow!
At The Library
How Does It Work?
Each household may check out up to 5 seed packets per year—just one packet per variety, please. The seeds are completely free and available to everyone. You don’t need a library card to participate, and you can stop by to pick up seeds any time the Newport Public Library is open.
It’s simple: browse the collection, choose the seeds you’d like to grow, and get started in your garden!
Checking Out Seeds
Stop by the Grow with Us Seed Library cabinet—located just to the right of the library’s circulation desk—and start exploring! Open the drawers to browse a wide variety of seed envelopes, organized alphabetically and sorted by vegetables, flowers, and herbs. Popular seed varieties even have their own dedicated drawers to make selection easier.
Each envelope is clearly labeled with color-coded tags that provide quick reference to the type of seed, a brief description, and basic growing instructions.
Once you’ve selected your seeds, please fill out a Seed Library Membership Form and a Seed Record Form. These help track what you’ve checked out and serve as a helpful reminder if you decide to save and return seeds from your harvest next season.

Why Save Seeds?
Saving seeds from locally grown plants helps build a seed stock that’s better adapted to our unique coastal climate—while also supporting biodiversity right here in our community.
There’s no obligation to return seeds, but as your gardening confidence grows, we encourage you to consider saving and sharing seeds from your own harvest. Your contributions help the Grow with Us Seed Library thrive season after season.
Not ready to save seeds just yet? No problem! You can still support the program by donating fresh, commercially grown, open-pollinated seeds. Every donation helps keep the seed library well-stocked for fellow gardeners.
If you’d like to contribute saved or donated seeds, please fill out a Seed Library Donation Form, available next to the Grow with Us cabinet near the library’s east entrance.
Seed Library Mission
Our mission is to provide equitable access to seeds, knowledge, and gardening opportunities—helping our coastal communities learn, grow, and connect with one another and with nature. We believe in the joy that gardening brings, not just to individuals, but to the entire community.
Through a system of lending and sharing seeds, the Grow with Us Seed Library encourages sustainable practices, fosters local resilience, and supports the simple, powerful act of growing together.
Seed Library Vision
We envision a vibrant, hands-on learning community where residents of the Central Oregon Coast can deepen their connection to gardening, the environment, and one another.
Our vision includes:
- Skill-building opportunities through seed-saving workshops, seasonal planting seminars, and round-table discussions tailored to gardening in our unique coastal climate.
- Community connection through pollinator and community garden tours and visits to local farms and nurseries
- At its heart, the Seed Library is about more than seeds—it’s about planting curiosity, nurturing knowledge, and growing a shared love of gardening across our community.
