Requirements for Recertification

Here's the "short version" on current requirements to maintain Certified OSU Extension Service Master Gardener™ Volunteer status. If you are an Associate Master Gardener™ or transferring from another county, please contact Stormi Dykes for additional information:

Hour Requirements

  • 20 Hours of Approved Volunteer Service (see below for composition)
  • 10 Hours of Approved Continuing Education, including 1 hour of "Growing & Belonging" content.
  • The VRS Reporting year is November 1, through October 31, the following year. Hours must be entered by 11:59 PM on October 31 each year.
Direct and indirect educational hours should currently constitute at least 50% of a Master Gardener's required Volunteer Service Hours in their recertification years. See our local guide for knowing what hours count for what categories.

Annual Paperwork

The following documents and activities are completed annually:
  • Conditions of Volunteer Service Agreement
  • Master Gardener Volunteer Position Description
  • Master Gardener Volunteer Code of Conduct
The OSU Extension Service | Lincoln County MG Program Team will notify you in advance when it’s time to submit these documents, as well as how you’ll be receiving them.

Also Required

OSU Extension Volunteer Criminal History Check
All recertifying OSU Extension Service MG Volunteers in Lincoln County must currently complete the Criminal History Check and National Sex Offender Registry Check every two years.
Keep an eye out for an email from OSU’s HR department requesting information they need from you to move forward with conducting your Criminal History Check. Please respond to this email promptly when you receive it!
Youth Background Check
All recertifying OSU Extension Service MG Volunteers in Lincoln County must currently complete a Youth Safety Training Module and Standards of Conduct annually. Keep an eye out for emails from OSU’s Youth Program Registry/Ideal-Logic requesting information they need from you to move forward with completing these requirements. Please respond to these emails promptly when you receive them!
